From the Garden Gear range of flower seeds, the Poached Egg Plant, or Limnanthes douglasii, plants self-seed providing a continuous supply of bright open flowers. They flower for a long season, attracting hoverflies and ladybirds, which love to feed on blackfly, so are very useful when planted next to broad beans.
Plant seeds undercover in April approximately 3mm deep. Germination takes approximately 15-20 days. Alternatively they can be sown directly outdoors where they are to flower in drills 10cm apart. Thin seedlings to 10cm apart and water gently. Poached egg plants like moist well drained soil and a sunny position.
