From the Garden Gear range of salad seeds, these Beetroot Bulls Blood seeds produce vividly coloured leaves so this plant can be used in an ornamental border as well as in the vegetable plot. Harvest the leaves for baby leaf salad or use the roots as you would any other beetroot. The leaves are broader than other beetroot varieties. The spherical roots are tender and have an excellent flavour.
Sow direct in April thinly 1cm deep in rows 30cm apart. Seed germinates in 14-21 days keep soil moist at all times. Thin seedlings to 5cm apart harvest the baby leaves from 35 days and the roots from when they are 2cm plus in diameter.
